Renovation of RURAL ICT center

Commissioned by Silleda Town Council, we renovated a disused traditional building in Cortegada to create a rural ICT Centre. The project revitalises an existing structure and adapts it to current needs, improving access to digital technologies and providing a space for training, work and knowledge-sharing.

The intervention preserves the character of the original building, defined by its traditional stone masonry walls, while introducing new elements to improve comfort, energy efficiency and functionality.

The interior layout is organised into two rooms of similar sizes, each with independent access and connected by an opening in the dividing wall. A system of folding doors allows the spaces to be combined or separated as required, making it possible to run activities simultaneously or adapt the space to different uses.

Timber finishes bring warmth to the interior, while new windows and improved insulation and waterproofing help create a comfortable environment. The project also includes an accessible toilet and a storage area.

The main room is designed as an open, flexible space for courses, workshops and talks. The second room is intended for computer-based work and smaller-scale training sessions. Both spaces are equipped with connections for IT equipment and audiovisual resources, allowing them to accommodate a range of activities.

Upgraded drainage, water supply, electrical, fire safety and heating systems complete the renovation, giving the building a new purpose and creating a useful, accessible facility that helps bridge the digital divide in rural communities.
