Renovation of A Bandeira Sports Hall
***
Built in 1987, A Bandeira Municipal Sports Hall is an important facility for local residents, sports clubs and pupils from CEIP Ramón de Valenzuela. Over the years, continued use and the natural ageing of materials made renovation necessary to bring the building up to current standards and meet present-day needs.
Commissioned by Silleda Town Council, the project involves upgrading key elements of the building to improve conditions for sporting activities, increase energy efficiency and reduce future maintenance costs.
The sports hall floor is being renewed with non-slip vinyl flooring that meets current quality and performance standards. The works also include replacing the existing lighting with energy-efficient floodlights and installing new natural wood benches.
Wall surfaces, metal elements and sections of the columns are being repaired and repainted. Further maintenance works include inspecting the roof and replacing the rainwater gutters to help preserve the building.
One of the key elements of the project is the conversion of the former changing rooms, which are currently disused, into a multi-purpose room for activities such as yoga, Pilates and dance. This creates additional opportunities for sports and exercise while making better use of the existing space.
Finally, accessibility at the entrance is improved by installing a new polished concrete floor slab. Together, these measures modernise the facilities, enhance their functionality and make better use of existing resources, extending the building’s service life and providing a more comfortable and energy-efficient environment for sporting activities.
